Poor People

People without the Bible are spiritually poor.

2 Timothy 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The passage above lists only four things for which the Bible is profitable. But it is profitable in more ways than we can know or count.

The worst poverty is spiritual poverty. People without financial wealth who study and obey the Bible are rich. Financially wealthy people who ignore and disobey the Bible are poor. Financially wealthy people can only get one thing or lose one thing, financial wealth.

No one ever loses anything of true worth by studying and obeying the Bible. They only gain. Most people with financial wealth know fairly accurately how much wealth they have. Whatever we mortals think the Bible is worth, it is always worth more. We cannot overestimate the value of the Bible.

Matthew 6:19-20: Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

Financial wealth is hard to come by and hard to keep. It is out of reach for most of us. But, if we have a Bible, the profit it can give is easy to come by and easy to keep. It is always within reach. Even if we acquire great financial wealth and keep it all of our lives, we will lose it when we die. The Bible is a treasure that we never need to lose. The more you know of the Bible and the more of the Bible you know, the wealthier you are, and the wealthier you will be forever.

Luke 21:33: Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

1 Timothy 4:8: For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

1 Timothy 6:5-6: Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
